Maritimo wins Class 1 Townsville
Maritimo Win Class 1 at Townsville Offshore Superboat Race
Round 3 of the Offshore Superboat Championships was held at Townsville on 4th July.
The 2 race format was again being used which has had a positive response from race crews and the public.
Missing from the days event were "The Good Guys” After the brothers rolled their Supercat in the pole position shoot out on Saturday, Chris & Brendan were fine but the Supercat would take no part in the races on the Sunday.
Class 1 with Qatar 96, Mustang, Trojan Steel, Maritimo & Acme all ready to battle for the first corner, but as the flag dropped Mustang raced to the lead and then slowed pulling off the course to take no further part in the event.
This left Maritimo and Qatar 96 in a close fight until 3 laps later Qatar 96 pulled out with Acme & Trojan Steel taking up the fight to Maritimo.
Maritimo 1st, Trojan Steel 2nd & Acme 3rd in race1.
In race 2 Qatar 96 lead from start to finish with Maritimo in 2nd, Trojan Steel & Acme failed to finish.
Supercat 1050hp had 2 close races with Global Racing leading the way with Team 3 close on their heels, coming in 3rd Mazlin Electrical.
Supercat 600hp had Saracen take 1st in the 2 races with SUV Dodge Ram & Kwozzy 2 Both Having a weekend they would like to forget with both teams not finishing each race.
Supercat 400hp saw what has become the "norm” with very close racing between the crews.
FGI held on for the win over Berwicks in the first race with Berwicks taking out the second race, Hogs Breath Racing hung on for 3rd with Grumpy Mongrel 4th.
Berwicks HF Marine took the overall win with FGI taking second overall even after the team "duffed” the boat and the batteries coming loose.
